Who is behind VANCOUVERZEN?

My name is Caroline Terree. -- I'm a graphic designer and the author of a series of thrillers set in and around Vancouver: "SÉRIE CSU / Les enquêtes de Kate Kovacs".

Born in Toulouse (France), I live in Belfast (Northern Ireland) and spend around 6 weeks each year in Vancouver (Canada).

What is VANCOUVERZEN?

VANCOUVERZEN is a photography and design project stemming from my love for Vancouver. The idea is to offer free poster designs: photographic ones (created from photos I have taken, in and around the city), as well as typographic ones.

What about the legal stuff?

It's pretty simple:

• All poster designs (including the photos featured on them) are © Caroline Terree.

• They CAN be printed, for free, for personal use.

• They CANNOT be used for any commercial purposes.

• They CANNOT be sold to, or by, other parties (digital files or in print).

• They CANNOT be made available on other websites.

*Note: downloading any VANCOUVERZEN design/file/poster means that you have accepted the LICENSE AGREEMENT.

I'd like to license some of your work for commercial use. Is that possible?

Yes. Just contact me at: caroline@vancouverzen.com.

I need to contact you. Can I do it in French or in English?

Yes. I am bilingual.

What is "SERIE CSU"? Why is it included in the menu bar?

SERIE CSU (also known as "Les Enquêtes de Kate Kovacs") is the name of a series of thrillers set in Vancouver I have been writing since 2003. Nine episodes have been published to date. The novels are written like episodes of a TV series and follow an FBI agent and her team, tackling difficult cases.

Since Vancouver plays an important role in the series, with most scenes taking place in real-life settings (a lot of the photos featured on the photographic posters were, in effect, taken while I was scouting locations for my novels), I wanted to make the posters easily available to the readers of my series – hence that option in the top menu bar.

Why the name "VANCOUVERZEN"?

Most of the photos I take when I'm in Vancouver are in/of natural settings (forests, parks, mountains, beaches, etc.) – and the main things I enjoy when I'm over there are 'zen' moments... Hence the main theme and name for this project. This is also the reason why the photographic posters are more about "moments" and "atmospheres" than showing 'postcard-like' touristic settings. They are more like the way I see and experience different places, in a personal and subjective way.

Some posters are available in Chinese, Korean and Japanese. Why did you choose those languages? And what about other languages?

The main language used for the VANCOUVERZEN posters is ENGLISH*.

I have also decided to create a multilingual collection (for the MEDIUM photographic posters), as a way to include and highlight the amazing Asian communities living, visiting and studying in the city. Saying that, I also have friends in Vancouver who are Arabic speakers, Farsi speakers, etc. So if you'd like to see VANCOUVERZEN posters in other languages, just contact me and I'll see what I can do! :)

*Note: the name "VANCOUVER" happens to be the same in many languages around the world, so the MEDIUM "English series" can actually be considered as a multilingual one! :)

What about your novels? Are they only available in French?

Right now: yes. But the series was written to be translated into English, and adapted for the screen as a TV series. -- So, "stay tuned"! :)

I spotted a mistake or a link not working on VANCOUVERZEN. Should I tell you?

Yes, please! -- I created and made hundreds of files available through this site, so even though I was really really really careful when doing so, mistakes do slip through...

There is a DONATE PayPal button at the bottom of each page. Why?

All the VANCOUVERZEN designs are free for personal use. But a lot of work went into this project. So if you feel like donating to show your appreciation... Great! :)

I've downloaded and printed a VANCOUVERZEN poster. Is the DONATE button the only way to show my appreciation?

No. Donating is only an *option*. -- VANCOUVERZEN is really about sharing my love for Vancouver and giving people poster designs they can print and enjoy for free.

If you still want to 'give back' somehow, you can send me photos of the posters you've printed, showing where and how you've displayed them. You can also join the VANCOUVERZEN community on Instagram & Twitter, and share your interest for my work – as an author and/or a graphic designer – with others! :)

And if the only thing you do is "download, print and enjoy" the designs: ALL GOOD!! Since this is exactly what this project is all about! :)

ALL POSTER DESIGNS ON THIS SITE ARE FREE FOR PERSONAL USE,

BUT IF YOU LIKE VANCOUVERZEN AND WISH TO DONATE... FEEL FREE! :)
